ConnectHub is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering socially conscious leadership through innovation, creativity, and project-based learning. It serves as a dynamic space where young people can engage in experiential learning and social entrepreneurship to address real-world challenges.
Our Why
The current education system is failing to equip young people with the skills necessary for Africa’s rapidly changing socio-economic landscape. Across sub-Saharan Africa, more than 9 million children drop out of school each year, while only 9% of young people enroll in tertiary education—one of the lowest rates globally. At the same time, youth unemployment stands at nearly 60% in some regions, highlighting the disconnect between formal education and employability.
With soaring unemployment, a struggling schooling system, unequal access to opportunities, and a population projected to double by 2050, we must radically rethink education. The reality is stark: by 2035, Africa will have the world’s largest workforce, surpassing China and India. Without purposeful work, over 1 billion young Africans could be left searching for jobs in economies that are not prepared to absorb them. If we fail to act urgently, this crisis will only deepen.
Our Solution
ConnectHub offers a transformative social entrepreneurship program designed to empower young people to become active problem-solvers in their communities. In partnership with the African Leadership Academy and the BUILD team, this 6 month program guides learners through the BUILD framework—an innovative approach centered on Believe, Understand, Invent, Listen, and Deliver.
Throughout the program, participants will identify pressing issues in their immediate communities and collaborate to develop and implement sustainable solutions. The program emphasizes project-based learning, allowing learners to gain hands-on experience while independently fulfilling specific tasks that support the execution of their ideas.
The program culminates in an Ideas Festival, where participants will reflect on their journey, present their projects, and gain valuable feedback. The top three groups will have the opportunity to win prize money to further develop their solutions, along with mentorship to scale and expand their projects for greater impact. This program is designed not only to foster entrepreneurial skills but also to inspire young people to lead with purpose, addressing real-world challenges through innovation and collaboration.
